The 4th graders have begun their unit on clay and are creating vessels made from coils. We learned about the Native American artist Maria Martinez and how she and her family created the black pots of San Ildefonso Pueblo region in New Mexico. We also looked at the vessel pots made by the ancient Egyptians and Greeks. Students are creating a vessel that will be used to carry something .
Students have been so engaged as the art room has become their personal studio. They are exploring and manipulating materials to use in their Self-Idenity Collage boards. They are working to create focal point in their work so that the viewer will be drawn into their artwork. |
