Philosophy of art education
The environment in the art room at Westgate School is one where children can discover and experience their world. Each activity has a particular learning/discovery objective in relationship to an element or principle of visual art. Children are taught that art is looking, thinking, creating, and celebrating. The basic objective of the program is to help children express themselves with a “growing” sense of their visual awareness and development. In general, children of this age are in the stage of discovering themselves and their surroundings. Through various art activities children are encouraged to communicate their ideas and express their creativity and thoughts.
