Whirled Peace at Westgate
The United Nations has declared September 21st International Day of Peace. All around the world people observe a day of peace and nonviolence. They may conduct ceremonies honoring peace, participate in community projects, or take a moment to silently wish for peace for everyone. This year students at Westgate will observe the day by creating an art installation of multicolored paper pinwheels. The pinwheels will be "planted" outside the school or hung in the halls of the building. The spinning of the pinwheels "spread" the students' thoughts and feelings about peace throughout their community and world. They are a visual reminder that "Peace begins with You and Me." Pinwheels for Peace is a nationwide project, for more information go to their website: http://pinwheelsforpeace.com
