Kindergartners have been exploring texture! We looked at the print Rhinoceros by Albrect Durer and discussed the difference between visual and tactile texture. Then we were busy rubbing all sorts of texture plates and trying to name what the texture looked like to us. Words like fuzzy, bumpy and spiky were discussed. With spring in the air…sort of…we are going to use this texture to create a Spring Texture Collage. Check back to see how they turn out.

The snow covered Evergreen trees outside the art room window inspired us to create these "symmetrical" tree paintings. Working with the concept of symmetry and color blending, students were thrilled to see how their trees became "the same on both sides." Kindergartners are learning about the exciting world of color. After reading Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh, we created a color page for our Art Book. We learned which colors were primary colors and how to mix those primary colors to create the secondary colors. Mixing colors is magical to a kindergartner! Kindergartners have been working on their cutting and gluing skills as they create these Gingerbread People. We are working in the concept using organic and geometric shapes Kindergartners are learning how artists use overlapping to show something in front of something else. They also have learned how artists mix colors to show light reflecting on objects....we painted the sunlight reflecting on our pumpkins in our "Pumpkin Patch Landscapes." |
