The first graders and the multi-age students have been learning about the artist Leonardo da Vinci. He was not only an artist but he was also a mathematician, a scientist, and an inventor! We viewed the portrait of Mona Lisa and discussed how da Vinci worked in the style of realism. Students used guidelines and measurements like da Vinci to create their own self portraits. They also used proportion and placement in drawing their self-portraits. We then worked with color in an expressive manner. My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss gave us inspiration as we chose colors to express our wide range of emotions felt during the year.
