This year the Art Department at Westgate is trying something new! We are hoping to increase printmaking materials in the art room. They are costly and to help cover those costs we are trying a couple of new ventures. One of the ventures is to offer Art keepsakes to the first and second graders. We are partnering with the company Square 1 Art who create some wonderful keepsakes from your children's artwork. You can visit their website at www.square1art.com. Students are currently creating the artwork that will be sent in to be made into keepsakes. The keepsakes can be ordered from the catalogs that will be sent home at a later date. All children will receive a complimentary sheet of stickers of their art work. Our hope is that parents will enjoy the opportunity to purchase some keepsakes of their child' s artwork and that the art department will be able to purchase the resources to enhance the printmaking unit at Westgate.
Second graders have been hard at work creating the paintings that will be used for their Square 1 Art Keepsakes. We studied the Post-Impressionism artist Vincent van Gogh and learned about his life and artwork. He loved to paint still life, especially sunflowers! Using their observation skills students studied and drew a sunflower. We then worked with chalk pastel and paint to create some wonderful sunflower paintings. These are just spectacular!
